Robert founded Avero in 2025, with a desire to bring larger investment banking service quality to a more dynamic proposition, with the ultimate aim of delivering exceptional outcomes for clients.

He started his career at KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the Corporate Finance Team. He subsequently worked for Alantra (formerly Catalyst Corporate Finance) for over 11 years as a Managing Director in the Technology team and a member of the UK Board.

He has advised on a wide range of transactions in the technology sector, including capital raises, minority and majority private backed MBOs (on both the sell-side and buy-side), PLC carve outs, and sales to strategics.

In his free time, Robert used to play rugby to a respectable standard, now plays golf to an average standard, and is always up for a challenge to keep fit.

Freddie Thomas

Freddie joined Avero on day one, motivated by the opportunity to bring genuinely high-quality service to market in a differentiated way.

His career has been focused exclusively on advising founders and private equity clients in the mid-market, working across the deal lifecycle on buy-side, sell-side and public-to-private transactions.

Freddie began his career at Grant Thornton, spending five years in the Deals and Consulting team where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. The last four years prior to joining Avero were spent with Investec UK’s investment banking team where he advised on a variety of services and software transactions.

Outside of work, Freddie is a keen cricket fan and — with varying success — an irregular left-handed batter. At weekends, he can often be found turning the pages of one of the 27 Jamie Oliver cookbooks he owns.

Steve was a Senior Partner at Catalyst Corporate Finance, an award winning mid-market corporate finance boutique, which was successfully sold to Alantra, a listed global investment bank.

Steve joined Avero as Chairman as he believes in the opportunity to build a new, sector focused market disrupter, which offers a differentiated delivery model to the generic approach adopted by mid-market investment banks.

In addition to Avero, Steve has a portfolio of investments in privately owned businesses and is a trustee of two charities in the sport and arts sectors.

Andy Currie

Senior Advisor

Andy has spent over three decades in mid-market M&A.  Having qualified as an ACA with the then Price Waterhouse, he joined the corporate finance team in 1992 before founding Catalyst Corporate Finance in 1998.  Under his leadership, the business grew to be one of the most respected mid-market advisors in the UK with a focus on delivering outstanding client service as well as the creation of a high-performance yet collaborative internal culture.

Andy has led many landmark transactions with clients such as Aspen Pumps, Agena, Alcumus, Celerant Holdings, Foster+Partners, Maine Pointe and SLR.

Andy is now an Independent Director at Foster+Partners and Chairman of a Medtech business, Matoke Holdings. He remains active in the market working with a number of his long-standing clients on strategic projects, as well as trying to find some time to increase his VO2 max!
